Hindi director Ashutosh Gowariker (1964) rose to prominence with
the four-hour musical extravaganza Lagaan (2001), set in colonial India, starring Aamir Khan with music by Allah Rakha Rahman.
Gowariker and Rahman then penned Swades (2004), starring Shah Khan,
and Jodhaa Akbar (2008), set in the 16th century.
Without Rahman's music, who parted ways after scoring
Danny Boyle's blockbuster Slumdog Millionaire (2008),
Gowariker's following movies lost quite a bit of appeal.
