Ajoy Kar (1914) directed
Shyamali (1956), based on Nirupama Devi's novel,
and then two movies for the popular couple of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen,
Harano Sur (1957) and Saptapadi/ Seven Steps (1961), written by Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay.
He directed several adaptations of literary works such as
Saat Pake Bandha (1963), from a Ashutosh Mukherjee novel, and
Malyadan (1971), from a Rabindranath Tagore novella.
