Ramesh Saigal (India, 1918) joined Filmistan and directed Shaheed/ Martyr (1948), with music by Ghulam Haider and dialogues by Qamar Jalalabadi, and starring Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal, and then Samadhi (1950), the film that established the couple of Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaywant, with music by Ramchandra Chitalkar. He went on to direct Shikast/ Defeat (1953), scripted by Wajahat Mirza and scored by the duo Shankar & Jaikishan, and to direct and script the debut of actor Sunil Dutt, Railway Platform (1955). Then came Shola Aur Shabnam/ Fire and Dew (1961) and Ishq Par Zor Nahin (1970), which is almost a remake of Yash Chopra's Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969).
