Stephanie Smolarski is currently working at Mahidol University, near Bangkok, as a language specialist, which involves teaching, editing, and writing exam questions. For her Bachelor's and Master's degrees she attended Tulane University in New Orleans. While there she studied Cognitive Science, where she gained an interest in the connection between language and thought. Her thesis examined the cognitive faculties that enable children to understand and express humorous behavior; this has provided her with the unique ability to render any joke humorless, with only a few explanatory sentences. While she reads about many scientific topics, she is especially interested in the fields of philosophy of action, evolutionary psychology, and developmental psychology. Living in Thailand has presented a new set of cognitive challenges for her, and she has been enjoying adapting to the exotic linguistic and perceptual stimuli.
She is a regular contributor and editor to the newsletter on Cognitive Science
