Notes (2023)
  • There is little left of "French" Montreal.
  • Habitat 67 is located on an island outside Montreal. It can be combined with a visit to Biosphere. Take the metro (yellow line) from Berri-UQAM to Parc Jean-Drapeau (just one stop). As you get off the metro, you'll see the Biosphere in front of you. About 500 meters in the opposite direction is Calder's L'Homme, also visible from the metro station. You can visit the Biosphere, then retrace your steps and check out Calder's giant sculpture. The Ponte de la Concorde is near this sculpture but it is not trivial to find it. Look for the bike lanes near the paved road. Follow the bike lanes and they will take you to the bridge. There are no signs. Turn right and walk 2 kms. Where the bridge bends left, there is an excellent view of Montreal. Habitat will be on your left, very visible. It is private property and you cannot enter the perimeter, but the best pictures are from the bike lane anyway. If you are a completist and want pictures also of the back, there is a trail behind the tennis court used mainly by surfers that takes you behind the fence. Return to the main road and continue towards Montreal (safer to walk on the sidewalk than on the bike lanes, opposite side of the road). It's a grueling 3 kms. At the end of the bridge keep following the bike lane as it turns right towards a series of bridges. It will take you (after many turns) to Peel St. Follow Peel St up to Rue Saint-Antoine (the Marriott was a good reference point in 2023). There are several entrances to the Bonaventure metro and you are very near the central train station.
