If English is your first language and you could translate my old Italian text, please contact me. Il cantante nasale Syd Griffin (nato in Kentucky) e i suoi Long Ryders furono fra i protagonisti dell'effimero fenomeno "cow-punk" di Los Angeles.

Esordirono con l'EP 10-5-60 (PVC, 1983), all'insegna di un folk-rock da garage caratterizzato da arroventati "wall of sound" chitarristici (And She Rides), ma si imposero con Native Sons (Frontier, 1984) quali portabandiera della strumentazione country in tipiche storie di prigioni, treni, fattorie, camionisti sollecitate da indemoniati rhythm and blues (Tell It To The Judge), rock and roll (Run Dusty Run, I Had A Dream), bluegrass (Never Got To Meet The Mom), hoedown (Final Wild Son), nonche' da arrangiamenti folk-rock alla Paisley (Too Close To The Light), eccellendo nel registro fatale/epico di Still Get By, che sara` poi anche quello di Looking For Lewis And Clark, su State Of Our Union (Island, 1985). Lo stile maturo di Two Fisted Tales (Island, 1987) dira` la verita` sul loro country-rock: sincero populismo e fervore cristiano nel segno di Gram Parsons. This World Is Not My Home (Geffen, 1997) e` un'antologia di materiale inedito o raro.

After the Long Ryders disbanded, singer/guitarist/songwriter Sid Griffin formed Coal Porters. Gram Parsons and the Byrds are still his obsession on Rebels Without Applause (Rubber, 1992), although Roll Columbia Roll has more of a Dylan-meets-Waits feeling.

Land Of Hope And Crosby (Prima, 1993) enrolls Kate St John to conduct a horn section and dramatically revises the sound of the band, pushing Imperial Beach, What Am I Doin' and What About Tomorrow towards rock and soul.

But Los London (Prima, 1995) marks, again, a return to the Long Ryders and their jangling country-rock (It Happened To Me, Chasing Rainbows, Crackin' At The Seams).
