Los Angeles producer and rapper
DJ Quik (David Martin Blake) arranged by himself his debut album
Quik Is the Name (1990), that contains
Tonite and Born and Raised in Compton.
His albums were largely conventional gangsta-rap:
Way 2 Fonky (1992),
Safe & Sound (1995),
Rhythm-al-ism (1998),
Balance & Options (2000),
Under tha Influence (2002),
Trauma (2005).
As a producer he specialized in g-funk style (funk samples).
BlaQKout (2009) was a more eclectic collaboration with Kurupt.
DJ Quik returned to conventional g-funk on The Book of David (Mad Science, 2011), with a peak of verve in Fire and Brimstone and a peak of
madness in Poppin'.
