Scottish singer-songwriter Dot Allison (formerly front woman of
Andrew Weatherall's dream-poppers One Dove, that released
Morning Dove White in 1993) staged an impressive come-back with
Afterglow (Heavenly, 1999), a collection of elegant, dreamy pop tunes
that bridge shoegaze and torch-ballad (Morning Sun) and are enhanced by
complicated arrangements.
Stretching that idea, We Are Science (Mantra, 2002) was mainly a
producers' album: We're Only Science and Substance owed most
of their appeal to the way the producers "cast" the sounds, not so much to
her vocals, melodies or lyrics.
Exaltation of Larks (2007) was produced by
Mark Kramer.
