Spanish vocalist Pablo Diaz-Reixa, who had already formed
Coconot and released Novo Tropicalismo Errado (2006),
launched his solo project El Guincho with the self-released
Folias (2007).
Borrowing elements of African, Jamaican and Brazilian music,
Alegranza (Discoteca Oceano, 2007) took Panda Bear's strategy of using
loops and samples to pepper a clattering and hazy art of spaced-out vocals
chanting melodies over tribal rhythms and transposed it to the intersection
of exotica and freak-folk.
