June Star is an "insurgent country" combo formed in 1998 in Baltimore (Maryland) by guitarist and singer Andrew Grimm and drummer Alan Zepp, who had already played together in Dumpster Fun and Factory Horse. The original trio recorded June Star (June Star, 1999). With a new bassist and second guitarist Tim Johnson the June Star recorded Songs From An Engineer's Daughter (Hungry For Music, 2000).

Telegraph (Safe House, 2001) introduced Tom Scanlan on mandolin and Tim Bracken on bass, bringing the line-up to five units. The anguished rock and roll of Thrown and Telegraphy welds Gram Parsons, Velvet Underground and Tom Waits. New Jordan and Telluride evoke Neil Young's Harvest.
