Galactivation (Cyberoctave, 2003) offers psychedelic dub-funk music that updates trip-hop to the new millenium. The overture, Galactivation, is a robotic Indian ballet that sets the tone for the rest of the album: on one hand, the western tradition that goes from Kraftwerk to drum'n'bass, and, on the other hand, the eastern tradition embedded in ethnic music. Solar Cell 2 sets a middle-eastern caravan-like extravaganza to light disco grooves. The groove is even less important in MidHeaven, whose haunting soundscape is dominated by tabla and enchanting flute. The marriage of Peruvian folk and machines in Lucid Dreaming continues the theme, which culminates in the hypnotic blend of sci-fi funk and African tribal music of Earsocket. There is precious little rhythmic invention: other than Lavatube and Telemetry, the emphasis is on relaxation and trance.
