Tanakh, the project of Virginia-based singer-songwriter Jesse Poe, resurrected the evocative, spiritual and gothic sound of the later works of Mike Gira's Swans on Villa Claustrophobia (2002), penned with acoustic, electric and handmade instruments. Increasingly more sophisticated arrangements led to the chamber folk music of Dieu Deuil (2004), that in turn led to the better organized Ardent Fevers (Alien 8, 2006). Relocating to Italy, Tanakh released Saunders Hollow (2007).
