In the 2020s London's duo Two Shell became leaders of
bass music, an evolution of dubstep and drum'n'bass via the
EPs Access (2019),
with the robotic Contactless and
the aquatic and glitchy Sync-2020
to counter the Afro-tribal
Heart Piece and Run,
N35 (2020), whose Missing in Action refines the Afro-tribal format with manipulated vocals and cosmic synths,
Touchpad (2020), with another original take on the Afro-tribal stereotype
(Touchpad) and more abstract rhythmic experiments
(especially Fracture),
SoulCity (2021), with the
alien techno of Blobject and Soft Core (its comic counterpart)
Speedrun (its earthly counterpart),
and
Wedding Practice (2021).
Their sound became more elaborate on the EPs
Home (2022), with the catchy disembodied refrain and percussive frenzy of Home,
and Icons (2022), with the witchy crescendo of
Ghosts, the feverish Memory and the thundering
Mainframe.
