Hrishikesh Mukherjee (India, 1922), assistant director to Bimal Roy in Mumbai, was a prolific Hindi director for 40 years between 1957 and 1998. His films include: Musafir (1957), Anari (1959), starring Raj Kapoor and with music by Shankar Jaikishan, Anuradha (1960), the rare film scored by Ravi Shankar, Chhaya/ Shadow (1961), Memdidi (1961), Asli-Naqli/ Real and Fake (1962), starring Dev Anand and with music by Shankar Jaikishan, Aashiq (1962), Saanjh Aur Savera (1964), Anupama/ Incomparable (1966), scripted by Rajinder Singh Bedi and scored by Hemant Kumar, Majhli Didi (1967), Aashirwad (1968), Satyakam (1969), based Narayan Sanyal's novel, Guddi (1971), written by Gulzar, Anand (1971), which launched the career of Amitabh Bachchan, Bawarchi (1972), Abhimaan (1973), scripted by Rajinder Singh Bedi, Namak Haraam (1973), scored by Burman and written by Gulzar, Mili (1975), Chupke Chupke (1975), Chaitali (1975), Alaap (1977), Gol Maal (1979), Khubsoorat (1980), Bemisal (1982), Kissise Na Kehna (1983), etc.
