Gene Saks (USA, 1921) was Neil Simon's favorite film director, directing Simon's comedies: Barefoot in the Park (1967), The Odd Couple (1968), Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1972), and Brighton Beach Memoirs (1986). He also directed Simon's plays in theater, such as "California Suite" (1976), "I Love My Wife" (1977), "Biloxi Blues" (1985), "Broadway Bound" (1986), "Rumors" (1988), "Lost in Yonkers" (1990) and "Jake's Women" (1992).

He also directed: Cactus Flower (1969), an adaptation of Pierre Barillet's and Jean-Pierre Gredy's play "Fleur de Cactus", Mame (1974), a remake of Auntie Mame (1958) and A Fine Romance (1991), an adaptation of Francois Billetdoux's play "Tchin-Tchin".
