Kasinadhuni Viswanath

Best films:
6.8 Sankarabharanam (1979)

Kasinadhuni Viswanath (1930) directed Telegu films that fuse mysticism, music, melodrama, social critique, such as Aatma Gowravam (1965), Sudigundalu (1967), Chelleli Kapuram (1971), Kalam Marindi (1972), Sarada (1973), O Seeta Katha (1974), and Jeevana Jyoti (1975). One of his best films is the delirious and sumptuous melodrama Sankarabharanam (1979), a love fable that is both ridiculous and sublime. A young dancer falls in love with a raga singer. Sold by her parents, the young girl is raped by her master. She kills him, but is ostracized by the people, and flees from the master so as not to compromise him. The rise of pop music, however, ruins him as well. The two die together in misery. He also directed: Saptapadi (1981), Subhalekha (1982), Saagara Sangamam (1983), Swati Mutyam (1985), Sruthilayalu (1987), Swarna Kamalam (1988), Eeshwar (1989), Sutradharulu (1989), Aapadbandhavudu (1992), Subha Sankalpam (1995), Swarabhishekam (2004).
