Aleksandr Zeldovich
(Russia, 1958) debuted with
shorts like Nochiu po Gorodu/ At Night Through the City (1983),
Mayva/ The Kids (1984) and
Voitelnitsa/ The Amazon (1986).
He formed a team with screenwriter
Vladimir Sorokin
and cinematographer Aleksandr Ilkhovskiy to make
Zakat/ Sunset (1990),
a loose adaptation of Tolstoy’s "Anna Karenina",
and
Moskva/ Moscow (2000), possibly
Ilkhovsky's visual masterpiece.
Zima Vesna (2004) was instead written by Zeldovich himself and photographed by Aleksey Fyodorov.
Ilkhovskiy returned for Mishen/ Target (2011) and
Medea (2021).
