Hiking Mt Hoffmann in Yosemite

Notes by piero scaruffi | See Travel resources | See Other Yosemite destinations

Mt Hoffmann (3307 m) is a really easy mountain to climb, by any standard. The trail starts at May Lake, which is located 3 kms north of Tioga Rd halfway between the Ten Lakes trailhead and Tuolumne Meadows. Walk 20 minutes from the parking lot to the campground and go left, coasting the southern shore of the lake. There is water at the very first restrooms on your left before you reach the shore of the lake. The trail is easy to follow and very crowded in the summer. The summit is not what you see from the lake: the real summit is a bit to the left and behind the prominent cliffs. There is an antenna on the top.

I would estimate 2 hours to the top. I actually ran it (no backpack, no water) in 47 minutes from the campground to the top.

The reason to hike this mountain is to have a picture with both Clouds Rest and Half Dome.

This is one easy place to take pictures of marmots.
