The Mokelumne Wilderness is considered one of the most primitive regions
in the whole of the USA. The highest peak is Round Top (3164m) that can be
easily climbed from the Carson Pass ranger station.
The trail passes Frog Lake and then Winnemucca Lake. Round Top is the
mountain right behind Winnemucca Lake. A trail leads to Round Top Lake.
Before the lake, one should leave the trail and head towards the prominent
crest of the mountain. Several use trails lead up to the summit. There
are three peaks one next to the other. The highest is difficult to climb.
Most people stop at the middle one, which is just one or two meters lower.
