was a member of a similar trio, the Three Blazers, when he intoned
Drifting Blues (1945), the first anthem of existential frustration,
and Merry Christmas Baby (1949), while on his own he magnified
Jessie Mae Robinson's Black Night (1951) and
Leiber & Stoller's Hard Times (1951).
