Runaway (Big Top, 1961) contiene anche Hats Off To Larry e Hey Little Girl. Little Town Flirt (1962) fu l'hit tratto dall'album omonimo, Little Town Flirt (Big Top, 1963).

The Definitive Collection (Recall, 1999) e` un'ottima antologia.

Shannon si suicido` nel febbraio 1990.

Del Shannon (Charles Westover) was a falsetto rocker from Michigan. He gained notoriety with Runaway (1961), a sad and pessimistic song featuring an unusually humorous solo at the "musitron" (a sort of prototype of the synthesizer played by the organist Max Crook, who had personally built it), a galloping rhythm that just as unusually follows the lyric, and a petulant guitar that awakens the ghost of Chuck Berry. Shannon, who pretended to be very young, had been hailed as a "child prodigy." Runaway (Big Top, 1961) also includes Hats Off To Larry and Hey Little Girl. The hit single Little Town Flirt (1962) is on the album with the same title, Little Town Flirt (Big Top, 1963). Del Shannon was one of the first white rockers to write his own material.

In reality he modeled himself after Roy Orbison, the self-pitying author of Cry, Myself To Sleep, Crying, She Cried, etc. Shannon's most intense melodrama was Little Miss Maid. Keep Searchin' (1964) and Stranger In Town (1965) were his last songs. Both are worthy of praise, but at the time they lacked commercial appeal.

The Definitive Collection (Recall, 1999) is a very good anthology.

Shannon committed suicide in February 1990.
