| Gli Strawberry Alarm Clock si formarono a Santa Barbara, a meta` strada fra San Francisco e Los Angeles, e divennero celebri per lo show psichedelico piu` pittoresco dell'epoca. Incense And Peppermint, pubblicata nell'aprile 1967, arrivo` in cima alle classifiche (qualche mese dopo). Era un anthem hippy, in realta` cantato da un membro esterno, molto meno originale di tanti altri brani dell'epoca ma orecchiabile come le canzoni dei Beatles. L'album Incense And Peppermint (Uni, 1967) conteneva pero` anche The Word's On Fire (di otto minuti) e Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow. L'album successivo, Wake Up It's Tomorrow (Uni, 1967), era pero` un mediocre accumulo di stereotipi mal suonati. The World In A Seashell (1968) e Good Morning Sunshine (1969) virarono verso l'easy-listening e Changes (RCA, 1970) verso l'hard-rock. Il chitarrista Ed King, un veterano del surf che aveva guidato il gruppo attraverso tutte le sue fasi, si sarebbe poi unito ai Lynyrd Skynyrd. |

The Strawberry Alarm Clock were the band that took psychedelic-rock to the top of the charts (a few months before the Beatles' Sgt Pepper). Their sound was less original than the sound of most psychedelic bands, but the refrain was catchy enough. |
