Budgie, a power-trio from Wales fronted by Burke Shelley, were Black Sabbath imitators with
blues-rock overtones (and even traces of blue-eyed soul) on their first three albums:
Budgie (1971), featuring the lengthy
Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman,
Squawk (1972) and
the more professional
Never Turn Your Back on a Friend (1973), with Breadfan.
They became more ambitious on In for the Kill (1974), containing
the ten-minute Zoom Club, the seven-minute Hammer and Tongs and especially the nine-minute Living on Your Own, and on
Bandolier (1975), containing the epic Napoleon Bona Parts 1 & 2.
