I Mommyheads sono il gruppo di due trapiantati di New York, Adam Cohen e Mike
Holt, che a San Francisco ripercorre le tappe
del pop piu` zuccheroso, rubando ritornelli e cori a Merseybeat e surf.
Lo stile degli XTC (canto affettato, arrangiamenti eccentrici, melodie eteree, ritmi rurali) si reincarna nel loro secondo Coming Into Beauty (Simple Machines, 1993). Il terzo album, Flying Suit (Dromedary, 1994), li presenta nei panni dei Grateful Dead piu` country (Sandman e Worm) e dei Beatles piu` drogati (Spiders e Bottom Out). Bingham's Hole (Dot Dot Dash, 1995) opta per un sound piu` pop, centrato sulle tastiere (Fast Enough For You). Mommyheads (DGC, 1997) is a horrible sell-out that displays total ineptitude in composing and playing the power-pop ballads that they would like to get rich with (Jaded, Thought Of You, Sad Girl).
