Satisfact is Seattle-area band who sound harks back to the new wave
and to dark punk. Led by
guitarist and vocalist Matthew Steinke (who also plays in
Mocket) and keyboardist Chad States,
Satisfact have coined a new genre by reviving the ghosts of
Joy Division and
Cure .
States' synthesizer is still an embryo on
The Unwanted Sounds Of (Up, 1996), which boasts the driving
Unswitched.
It's Satisfact (K, 1997) that dispels all amateurism and establishes
States as a major electronic arranger. The spooky
Misprint and How Things Work are still loaded with references
to dark punk, but the instrumentals shine of a wicked light
(Building Tall Buildings, Four Sided and Moods For Moderns).
The Third Meeting At The Third Counter (K, 1999) is not as creative
and not as balanced. The anthemic Locate is the stand-out track,
but it is not representative of the rest of the collection.
