This week's "next big thing" from Bristol's trip-hop scene is the
Day One, the duo of Phelim Byrne and Donnie Hardwidge, whose
Ordinary Man (Astralwerks, 1999) was briefly a sensation.
Unfortunately, their fusion of hip-hop, pop, jazz and rock, even in the standout
tracks Waiting for a Break, In Your Life, Trying Too Hard
Bedroom Dancing and Ordinary Man
(virtually a copy of Elton John's Your Song), sounds
terribly predictable, cliched, monotonous, dated.

Waiting for a Break, In Your Life, Trying Too HardBedroom Dancing and
Ordinary Man
cliche' datati.
