Celine Dion, a Quebec (Canada) native, the youngest of 14 children who were all initiated to music by their very musical parents, was still a child when she wrote her first hit.
Inspired by Natalie Cole and Barbra Streisand, Dion quickly became a versatile
(albeit a little dull) singer who attained some recognition in Canada with the
albums La Voix Du Bon Dieu (1981),
Tellement J'ai D'amour (1982),
Les Chemins De Ma Maison (1983),
Du Soleil Au Coeur (1983),
Les Oiseaux Du Bonheur (1984),
C'est Pour Toi (1985),
Les Chanson En Or (1986),
Icognito (1987).
Her early hits were Un Colombe (1985) and Delivre-moi (1987).
Dion's decade was the 1990s, that started with the album
Unison (1990)
a promising string of local hits:
Any Other Way (1990), Unison (1990),
Where Does My Heart Beat Now (1990),
Last To Know (1991),
Ziggy (1991), Have A Heart (1991).
She was ready for mass consumption in the United States and in fact became
an international star of pop vocals with
Beauty And The Beast (1991).
The album Celine Dion (1992) spawned an impressive number of hits:
If You Asked Me To,
Des mots qui sonnent,
Je danse dans ma tete,
Nothing's Broken But My Heart,
Love Can Move Mountains,
Water From The Moon,
Did You Give Enough Love,
a phenomenon that had few equals.
Another film theme (When I Fall In Love) and another cover
(The Power Of Love) propelled the album
The Color Of My Love (1993) to the top of the charts, followed in 1994
by the singles When I Fall In Love,
Misled,
Think Twice,
L'Amour Existe,
Encore,
Lolita,
Only One Road.
preceded the multi-million seller
Falling Into You (1996), that will sell 25 million copies worldwide
in less than four years, thanks mainly to a cover of
Jim Steinman's masterpiece
It's All Coming Back To Me Now.
The eclectic (gospel, reggae, disco, duets with Pavarotti and Streisand) collection of
Let's Talk About Love (Epic, 1997) and yet another film theme,
My Heart Will Go On, crowned her mature season.
Celine Dion is successful precisely because her voice is so meaningless,
possibly the least inventive and emotional of her generation.
Her style harks back to the heydays of Tin Pan Alley.

I suoi primi successi erano Un Colombe (19859 e Delivre-moi 819879.
Any Other Way (1990), Unison (1990), Where Does My Heart Beat Now (1990), Last To Know (1991), Ziggy (1991), Have A Heart (1991). If You Asked Me To, De Mots Qui Sonnent, Je Danse Dans Ma Tete, Nothing’s Broken But My Heart, Love Can Move Mountains, Water From The Moon, Did You Give Enough Love, un fenomeno che non aveva precedenti. Il tema di un altro film (When I Fall In love) e un’altra cover (The Power Of Love) spinsero l’album The Colour Of My Love (1993) in vetta alle classifiche, seguito nel 1994 dai singoli When I Fall In Love, Misled, Think Twice, L’Amour Existe, Encore, Lolita, Only One Road.
All’album francese D’eux (1995) con Pour Que Tu M’Aimes encore e Je Sais Pas, seguì il best seller Falling Into You (1996) che vendette 25 milioni di copie nel mondo in meno di 4 anni grazie soprattutto alla cover del capolavoro di Jim Steinman It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.
