Vidar "Ildjarn" Vaaer, a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist who was a former
member of Thou Shalt Suffer and Sort Vokter, pioneered "lo-fi black metal"
on collections of very brief and brutal "songs" such as
Ildjarn (1996) and Forest Poetry (1996).
Strength and Anger (1996)
Landscapes (1996) and Hardangervidda (2002) are devoted to ambient suites for electronic keyboards.
The double-disc Ildjarn is Dead (Northern Heritage, 2006) compiles rarities.
