I Pursuit Of Happiness di Moe Berg si misero in luce con l'album Love Junk (Chrysalis, 1988), prodotto da Todd Rundgren, all'insegna di un hardrock melodico alla Cheaptrick permeato di libidini adolescenziali (I'm An Adult Now, She's So Young e Killed By Love, i primi singoli). Accanto al leader figuravano gia` i membri destinati a rimanere le colonne portanti della formazione: il batterista Dave Gilby, il chitarrista Kris Abbott, la cantante Leslie Stanwyck.

Con One-Sided Story (Chrysalis, 1990) il cantante e compositore scrisse di fatto un concept sui rapporti con le donne (Two Girls In One, Shave Your Legs, All I Want) e sperimenta per la prima volta arrangiamenti fuori dalla struttura canonica del rock chitarristico (Gary Windo al sassofono nella conclusiva Survival ).

Divenuto quasi un Marshall Crenshaw del pop erotico e liberatosi dell'influenza di Rundgren, Berg cesella in Downward Road (Mercury, 1993) un affresco quasi psicanalitico dei sentimenti contrastanti di amore, perversione, speranza, libidine (Bored Of You, Honeytime, I'm Ashamed Of Myself). Villa In Portugal e` scritta in collaborazione con Jules Shear. Gli arrangiamenti si fanno sempre piu` austeri in Love Theme From TPOH e in But I Do (Paul McCandless all'oboe).

Il piu` commerciale e sofisticato Where's the Bone? (Iron, 1995) contiene l'hit Kalendar (TWA, 1996). Gli arrangiamenti sfoggiano ormai tromba, sitar, harmonium, tabla, oud.

Su The Wonderful World Of... (Iron, 1996), con Tara, la produzione e` quasi "sinfonica", grazie a una cornucopia di tastiere (Matt Horner), fiati (Sarah McElcheran) e violino (Melanie Doane).
