Twilight Circus Dub Sound System is the solo dub project of
veteran multi-instrumentalist Ryan Moore, who played
bass for the Legendary Pink Dots, a
Vancouver (Canada) native who relocated to Holland and has been around
since 1981.
Moore's take on dub is, basically, a radical application of the
ideology of dub pioneers King Tubby, Lee Perry and Augustus Pablo:
his bass lines weigh tons, his atmospheres are cadaverous,
his thick and deep arrangements are kaleidoscopic while looking inconspicuous.
And his dub is fueled by real bass and drums, not by electronic gimmickry.
Moore debuted with In Dub Vol 1 (M Records, 1995)
and proceeded to shake the foundations of dub with
Other Worlds Of Dub (M Records, 1996), containing Indian,
and with
Bin Shaker Dub (M Records, 1997), that includes the 1996 hit
UK Steppers, Killer and Shaka.
Horsie (M Records, 1999) added guitars to the mix and produced
some of his most melodic tracks
(Binshaker Dub, Kik, Dance).
Two collections of mostly old material ("special dubplate mixes")
also feature excellent new tracks:
Dub Plate Selection (M Records, 1998) has
Filter 13 and Beneath The Valley Of Dub,
Dub Plates Vol 2 (M Records, 1999) has Bord Plate and lots
of rarities.
Dub Voyage (M Records, 2000) and
Volcano Dub (M Records, 2001) could be his best albums.
The Essential Collection (M, 2002) is a career retrospective.
Ryan Moore began experimenting with (Jamaican) vocalists on the EPs What We Got To Do (M Records) and Love Is What We Need (M Records)
partially repeated on Foundation Rockers (M, 2003).

Twilight Circus
e Augustus Pablo: bass line pesantissima, atmosfere lugubri, caleidoscopici
arrangiamenti, corposi e profondi, che riescono allo stesso tempo a risultare
impalpabili .
elettronici.
Moore ha esordito con l’album In Dub Vol. I (M Records,
con Other Worlds
Of Dub (M Records, 1996),
contiene Filter 13 e Beneath The Valley Of Dub, mentre Dub Plates Vol 2 (M Records, 1999) ha Bord Plate e altri
pezzi rari.
Dub Voyage (M Records,
2000) e Volcano Dub
(M Records, 2001) possono essere considerati i suoi
album migliori.
sperimentazione con vocalists giamaicani negli EP What We Got
To Do (M Records) e Love
Is What We
Need (M Records),
parzialmente ripetuta anche in Foundation
Rockers (M, 2003).
