Urban Dance Squad is a Dutch band (a rock quartet plus a dj)
that began as the realization of the
rap-metal fusion first envisioned by Run-DMC.
The album Mental Floss For The Globe (Ariola, 1990) uses that classic
sound to jumpstart a wild carnival of stylistic pastiches
(Deeper Shade Of Soul, Fastlane,
Prayer For My Demo, No Kid). A good sense of melody and a
youthful imagination lent each song its own charm.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers became the main
influence on Life 'N Perspective (Arista, 1991), that still features
powerful numbers like Comeback and Routine, and
Persona Non Grata (Virgin, 1995), that features the club hit
Demagogue, but the music was getting more and
more predictable.
Planet Ultra (Virgin, 1997) signaled a new
beginning, featuring both aggressive numbers (Nonstarter, Forgery)
and softly melodic ballads
(Temporarily Expendable, Pass the Baton Right)..
Artantica (Virgin, 1999) closed the loop by returning to the sound of
the origins.

Gli Urban Dance Squad sono una band olandese (un quartetto rock più un dj), che ha iniziato come fusione rap-metal, già intuita dai Run-DMC. L’album Mental Floss For The Globe (Ariola, 1990), usa quel suono classico per lanciare un carnevale selvaggio di stili (Deeper Shade Of Soul, Fastlane, Prayer For My Demo, No Kid). Un buon senso della melodia ed un’immaginazione giovanile conferiscono il proprio charme ad ogni canzone.
I Red Hot Chili Peppers diventano la principale influenza in Life 'N Perspective (Arista, 1991), che vede ancora la presenza di potenti numeri come Comeback e Routine, ed in Persona Non Grata (Virgin, 1995) con l’hit da club Demagogue, ma la loro musica stava già diventando molto più prevedibile.
Planet Ultra (Virgin, 1997) segna un nuovo inizio, che comprende sia canzoni aggressive come Nonstarter e Forgery che ballate dolcemente melodiche come Temporarily Expendable e Pass the Baton Right). Artantica (Virgin, 1999) chiude il cerchio con un ritorno al sound delle origini.
