The Baptist Generals are an alt-country Texas-based outfit that harks back to
the delirious, grotesque style of the
Grifters.
One album, Dog (Munich, 2000), and two EPs,
Captured Radio Waves (Humanity, 2001) and The Crave Annex (2001),
refined their idea of music.
Despite the stomping bacchanals of Alcohol and Burning,
No Silver No Gold (Subpop, 2003) is mainly a somber and subdued
collection.
Chris Flemmons pours his heart out, and sometimes he is merely shouting
(On A Wheel) and sometimes he is whining through
minimal accompaniment (Creeper, the funereal blues Diminished).
