Michigan's Black Dahlia Murder transcended metalcore on Unhallowed (2003) and Miasma (2005) by cross-fertilizing the acrobatic technique of death-metal and with the emotional melody of black metal, a schizophrenia epitomized by the dual vocals, a black-metal shriek and a death-metal growl.
Their music became progressively more accessible on
Nocturnal (2007) and Deflorate (2009) until the melodic peak of
Ritual (2011).
