Cam'ron (aka Cameron Giles, aka Killa Cam) was the king of gangsta in New York in the early 2000s. After debuting with Confessions of Fire (1998), he found his voice on S.D.E. (2000) and became a star thanks to Come Home with Me (2002), including his hit Oh Boy. Kanye West produced Down & Out on Purple Haze (2004). The film Killa Season (2006) and the album Crime Pays (2009) were mediocre.

A spin-off of Cam'ron's career, the Diplomats debuted with the double-disc Diplomatic Immunity (2003), followed by Diplomatic Immunity Vol. 2 (2004). The other founder, Jim Jones (Joseph Guillermo Jones), debuted solo with On My Way to Church (2004), followed by Diary of a Summer (2005), but attained success with Hustler's P.O.M.E. (2006) that contained the hit We Fly High. Jones then released Harlem's American Gangster (2008) and M.O.B. (2009).
