The Crack Pipes, led by smoky vocalist Ray Colgan, debuted with
Every Night Saturday Night (Sympathy, 2001), a schizophrenic collection
that alternated furious, distorted garage rock'n'roll
(Cottonpickin') and
devoluted blues numbers a` la Jon Spencer
(Every Night Saturday Night, Two Gold Rings). Plus an
eight-minute cover of Downtown Diddley.
The blues is the center of mass on follow-up album
Snakes In My Veins (Emperor Jones, 2003), despite the fact that it begins
with the hysterical Cinnamon Roll and despite a shouted wicked
Snakes in my Vein and despite the exuberant ska-core rave-up of
Special Rider.
But Avenues and Boulevards, which sounds like the Aerosmith covering the Doors' Riding in the Storm,
The World Is A Crooked Place
and the hyper-psychedelic slow and distorted nine-minute workout Jawbone Blues, reveal Colgan's blues soul. The Bob Dylan-esque shuffle of Super Motel 8 adds pathos to the proceedings.

pezzi blues alla Jon Spencer(Every Night Saturday Night, Two Gold Rings).
Special Rider.
In Avenues and Boulevards, che suona come se gli Aerosmith facessero le cover di Riding in the Storm,
The World Is A Crooked Place dei Doors, e nei 9 minuti psichedelici ,lenti e distorti di Jawbone Blues,
