Dakota Suite is the project of English singer-songwriter Chris Hooson, an intimate, pessimistic philosopher in the vein of Nick Drake but with the delicate lyricism of Mazzy Star and a flair for mixing soul, folk and jazz (the melancholy Chet Baker brand) via clever, atmospheric arrangements that recalls Tim Buckley and Tom Waits.

Songs For A Barbed Wire Fence (Glitterhouse, 1998) was the debut album, and Alone With Everybody (Star Star Stereo, 1998) is an anthology of the early singles.

Hooson explained his aesthetic vision in the instrumental albums Navigators Yard (Glitterhouse, 1999) and The Way I Am Sick (Glitterhouse, 2001), with a chamber orchestra, dominated by the 13-minute The Way I Am Sick.

The mini-album Morning Lake Forever (Badman, 2000) was a confused work dominated by the nine-minute Chapel Rain, filled with disposable instrumentals and occasionally desperate (Because I Could Not Wait for Death),

Signal Hill (Badman, 2000), on the other hand, was the mature expression of his "spleen": A View of the Sea, Close Enough to Tears, When Skies Are Grey, The Cost of Living.

This River Only Brings Poison (Glitterhouse, 2002) continued the journey through his paradisiac hell: The Lepers Companion, Sand Fools The Shoreline, Lets Be On Our own, How Safe We Must Seem, Pillows In The Water.

Il mini album Morning Lake Forever (Badman, 2000) è un lavoro confuso dominato dai nove minuti di Chapel Rain, pieno di pezzi strumentali usa e getta e sporadicamente disperati (Because I Could Not Wait for Death),

Signal Hill (Badman, 2000), d’altra parte, è l’espressione matura del suo "spleen": A View of the Sea, Close Enough to Tears, When Skies Are Grey, The Cost of Living.

This River Only Brings Poison (Glitterhouse, 2002) ha proseguito il viaggio attraverso il suo inferno paradisiaco: The Lepers Companion, Sand Fools The Shoreline, Lets Be On Our own, How Safe We Must Seem, Pillows In The Water.

Dakota Suite (basically Chris Hooson) continued to pursue his sophisticted eclectic aesthetic on Waiting For The Dawn To Crawl Through And Take Away Your Life (2007), The End of Trying (2009), The Night Just Keeps Coming In (2009) and The Hearts Of Empty (2011).

Vallisa (Glitterhouse, 2010) was a collaboration with cellist David Darling and pianist Quentin Sirjacq.

The ambient requiem The North Green Down (2011) was a collaboration between Dakota Suite and electronic composer Emanuele Errante.

The Side of Her Inexhaustible Heart (2012) was a collaboration between Dakota Suite and pianist Quentin Sirjacq.
