Oregon-based singer-songwriter
Alela Diane
displayed
impressive vocal range not to mention versatility on
The Pirate's Gospel (Names, 2007), a collection of stark acoustic
folk tunes that evoked the spirit and the inflections of
Joanna Newsom.
After lending her precious vocals to the
Headless Heroes' cover project Silence Of Love (2008), Diane
upped the ante with To Be Still (2009), that boasted,
(mostly acoustic) country instrumentation. The album showed improvements in
both her vocal recitation
(White as Diamonds) and her arrangement taste
(The Ocean).
