Inspired by
Shitmat,
DJ Scotch Egg (Japanese producer Shigeru Ishihara, based in England) used a
handheld videogame console to shape dance-music of the gabber/chiptune genre, as documented on
KFC Core (Adaddat, 2005), a brief album ostensibly dedicated to a
fast-food chain.
The chaotic and virulent punk-techno charge of
Scotch Chicken, akin to
Atari Teenage Riot's digital hardcore,
is a distraction because the core of the album is a
digital version of musichall skits:
Tetris Wonderland, that mimicks the synthpop novelties of the 1980s,
or the psychotic polka Scotch Heads at machine-gun tempo,
or the fake Scottish fanfare of Scotch Land.
It is a cute idea, but rather limited.
Scotch Hausen (2007) toyed with remixes of compositions by
Bach, Stockhausen, Terry Riley, Philip Glass and Moondog.
Encyclopedia of Hardcore Chiptune (De-fragmented, 2007) is a compilation.
Shifting more decisively towards the style of
Atari Teenage Riot,
the 27-minute Drumized (Load, 2008), created with
four gameboys and a mixer, contains the digital hardcore of
Scotch Circus,
Scotch Grind and
Scotch Phantom.
He and Kazuhisa "E-Da" joined
Seefeel
and completely changed the style of the band on Seefeel (Warp, 2011).
He formed Drum Eyes to release
Gira Gira (2010)
with
Chris Anderson, Kazuhisa "E-Da" Iida and Tom Barnes.
Devilman, that released
Devilman (2012), was a collaboration with
Taigen Kawabe (vocals) and Gorgonn Amanita (electronics).
Takkak Takkak (2024) was a collaboration with
Johanes "Mo'ong" Santoso Pribadi.
Shigeru was also in Same Things, together with Ashley Marlowe and Sam Dook of Go! Team.
