Seattle's
Gatsbys American Dream
pioneered a sort of progressive punk-pop in which the vocals alternated between
hardcore and pop styles while the rhythm section alternated between mathcore and dance styles.
Following the tentative popcore of
Why We Fight (Rocketstar, 2002), they recorded their first concept album, Ribbons and Sugar (Rocketstar, 2003),
based on George Orwell's "Animal Farm".
Volcano (Fearless, 2005) was
another concept album (based on the Roman city of Pompeii).
Gatsbys American Dream (Fearless, 2006) was similar to
Volcano (Fearless, 2005), just adding more subtletly to the overall sound (thanks to two new members).
