The High Places, a New York-based duo
(Mary Pearson and Robert Barber)
created childish multi-layered multi-stylistic songs on High Places (Thrill Jockey, 2008) that were assembled
digitally from samples, loops, found sounds and home-made instruments, with vocals filtered through echo and delay.
A little tweaking turned them into a
danceable proposition on
High Places Vs. Mankind (2010),
that also boasts more live instruments, but it is hard to salvage anything from
such a shallow collection (On Giving Up for danceability).
