Swedish singer-songwriter
Frida Hyvonen
harked back to Joni Mitchell's tradition of piano-based meditations on
Until Death Comes (2005), whose
Once I Was a Serene Teenaged Child and
Come Another Night had the sad/naive quality of the 1960s.
Jari Haapalainen's lush arrangements turned her into a pop songstress on
Silence is Wild (2008). By contrast, the one spartan and mournful
number, December, sounds like a quantum leap forward, when in fact
it's a leftover from a past style.
