Icarus Line is a Los Angeles quintet (Joe Cardamone on vocals, Alvin DeGuzman and Aaron North on guitars) that brings back the harsh, convoluted sound of post-hardcore milestones such as Jesus Lizard or, closer to home, Drive Like Jehu. Debuting with the EP Red and Black Attack (New American Dream, 2001), they struck gold with the visceral and tight songs of Mono (Crank, 2001), but retreated to a more predictable punk-pop sound with Penance Soiree (V2, 2004).

Black Lives At The Golden Coast (Dim Mak, 2007) substituted dejection for vitriol and moodiness for catchiness. The result was bland and derivative, except the grand finale of Kingdom.

Wildlife (2011) didn't even have the killer anthem, just a homogeneous parade of predictable punk-rock.
