Ikara Colt are a band from London
(guitarist Claire Ingram, vocalist Paul Resende)
that plays retro` rock'n'roll, the fad of the 2000s.
Propelled by the single Sink Venice, the album
Chat And Business (Epitaph, 2002) was no more original than
many garage-rock albums of the 1980s: it just happened to come out at
the right time.
But, compared with the Strokes, they are
angrier, nastier and noisier. Their models are the
Sex Pistols, the
Stooges and
Sonic Youth.
Modern Apprentice (Fantastic Plastic, 2004) pours down another dose
of rock'n'roll numbers
(I'm With Stupid, Automatic, Wanna Be That Way)
but the band has also matured enough to experiment with
arrangement and dynamics (Waste Ground, Modern Feeling).
