Immortal Lee County Killers are a duo
(Chetley Weise on atrociously distorted guitar) that hails from Alabama and
plays loud and sloppy garage-blues. The similarities with
White Stripes are only superficial, though.
The Essential Fuck-Up Blues (Estrus, 2001) exploded with the visceral
force of Blue Cheer, the
Stooges and
MC5.
The originals on Love Is a Charm of Powerful (Estrus, 2003) are even
more focused and inebriated (Robert Johnson, Shitcanned Again),
but the album contains too many covers, as if the duo (same guitarist, but
new drummer) ran out of ideas halfway into the recording.
Love Unbolts the Dark (Sweet Nothing, 2003) was instead a massive
disappointment. Perhaps the left-overs of the previous session, these songs
lack the verve and the passion of the first two albums.
