King Tuff (the project of Los Angeles-based Kyle Thomas) pursued a revival
of vintage power-pop on Was Dead (2008) and King Tuff (2012),
like a more archeological version of the
New Pornographers or of the
Young Fresh Fellows, with impeccable
reconstructions of the garage sound of the Sixties like
Connection (on the first album) or
Anthem and
Keep On Movin' (on the second, more commercial, album).
Kyle Thomas also sang for Feathers on Feather (2005)
and with J Mascis' Witch.
He then started his own project, Happy Birthday, that debuted with the catchy
lo-fi power-pop of Happy Birthday (Sub Pop, 2010), notably
Girls FM.
