Los Angeles' Say Anything, fronted by Max Bemis, composed the rock opera Is A Real Boy (2004) that wed the catchy hooks of emo-pop, eclectic song structures and profound thinking. The eclecticism got out of control on the double-disc In Defense Of The Genre (2007), an ambitious collage of styles. Say Anything (2009), that contains the single Hate Everyone, ran the gamut from synth-pop to doo-wop.

Say Anything's Max Bemis and Coby Linder joined Saves the Day's Chris Conley and David Soloway to form Two Tongues. Two Tongues (2009) was a dark and brooding work that harked back to emocore and punk-pop of the 1990s. Anarchy My Dear (2012) was an amateurish attempt at sound like real punks.
