Waxwing, formed in 1996 by vocalist and guitarist Rocky Votolato, has released For Madmen Only (1999), One For The Ride (2000) and Nobody Can Take What Everybody Owns (Second Nature, 2002). Their roots-rock with punkish overtones is a diligent descendant of the sound of the Replacements.

Rocky Votolato also released solo acoustic albums of simple albeit competent folk-rock: Rocky Votolato (1999), with I Remember Music, Burning My Travels Clean (2002), Suicide Medicine (2003), Makers (Barsuk, 2006). The latter, in particular, magnified his ragged and powerful voice.

A full-time backing band marked a departure for Votolato on The Brag And Cuss (Barsuk, 2007), bringing him closer to the universe of country-rock (Your Darkest Eyes).

Television of Saints (2012) was a rather subdued and substandard effort.
