The all-male K-pop septet BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan, aka Bangtan Boys), originally consisted of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
After the EPs 2 Cool 4 Skool (2013), O!RUL8,2? (2013) and
Skool Luv Affair (2014),
the album Dark & Wild (2014),
the Japanese compilation Wake Up (2014),
the EPs
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Part 1 (2014) and
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Part 2 - Run (2015),
and the compilation
The Most Beautiful Moment in Life - Young Forever (2016),
probably the only album that deserves to be remembered,
BTS became one of Korea's bestselling artists with
Wings (2016), containing the hit Blood Sweat & Tears, an album
reissued with additional songs as
You Never Walk Alone (2017),
while becoming bestselling artists in Japan with
Youth (2016) and the singles
Spring Day (2017) and
DNA (2017).
They became the first Korean band to top the US charts with
Love Yourself - Tear (2018), followed by two more #1 recordings,
the compilation
Love Yourself - Answer (2018), which samples the EP
Love Yourself - Her (2017) and Love Yourself - Tear,
and
the EP Map of the Soul - Persona (2019), which
make them the first group since the Beatles to top the charts in less than a year, and
the best-selling artist in South Korea's history.
The number-1 hits were
Fake Love (2018),
Idol (2018),
Boy with Luv (2018), later included in Map of the Soul - Persona.
Map of the Soul 7 (2020), mostly produced by
Hyo-won "Pdogg" Kang,
topped the sales charts in more than 20 countries and included the hit single
On besides most of
Map of the Soul - Persona.
The video of
Dynamite (2020)
became the first YouTube video ever to be watched more than 100 million times in 24 hours.
Be (2020) came out a few months later, eight songs that managed to
further lower their artistic (?) standard.
Proof (2022) is a three-disc career anthology, including a disc of demo versions and leftovers.
J-Hope, aka Ho-seok Jung, debuted solo with
the concept album
Jack in the Box (2022), and became
the first BTS member to release a solo album.
The album was composed by producers such as
Hyo-won "Pdogg" Kang,
MinSu "Ghstloop" Kim,
Brasstracks (the production duo of Ivan Jackson and Conor Rayne)
that had often worked on BTS albums as well as
Elijah "Scoop DeVille" Molina and
Clams Casino.
