New York's Lemon Twigs, formed by brothers Brian D’Addario and Michael D’Addario, two vocalists, songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, played fun, lighthearted, retro-pop on Do Hollywood (2016).
The unorthodox rock opera Go To School (2018) was an
ironic take on glam-rock of the 1970s:
the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band-like Never in My Arms Always in My Hear, assorted
Todd Rundgren-ian vignettes
and generic bubblegum-pop of the 1960s like Queen of My School.
The bombastic production of Songs For The General Public (2020) cannot
hide the fact that they are just recycling old ideas by
Elton John (Moon) and David Bowie.
Everything Harmony (2023) is a more intimate work of soft pop grounded in
the romantic melodies of
latter-day Beatles and Burt Bacharach. Ghost Run Free tries in vain to
match the catchy appeal of 1960s bands like the
Hollies.
