Volition Immanent was born in Holland from the meeting of vocalist Mark van de Maat and producer Stefan Chin-Kon-Sung, aka Parrish Smith (whose assumed name is a combination from Theo Parrish and Alex Omar Smith), a Suriname-raised son of an Indian and a Chinese.
Parrish Smith had already released the four-song EP Virgin Of The World (2016) and the four-song EP Esplendor (2017) as well as the concept album Genesis Black (Knekelhuis, 2017).
The highlights of
Volition Immanent (Contort Yourself, 2018) are
the ceremonial shamanic
No Gods
(that harkens back to the gothic dances of the 1980s) and the
visceral rap Truth.
